Abstract
The wavelet transform modulus maxima (WTMM) method is generalized to m ultifractal image analysis, providing a statistical characterization o f the fluctuating roughness of fractal surfaces. This isotropic 2D ver sion of WTMM methodology is calibrated on deterministic self-similar i nterfaces and random self-affine surfaces (fractional Brownian surface s and multifractal counterparts). Applications to high-resolution sate llite data and simulated radiance fields for stratocumulus clouds are presented.
