Abstract
Recently, studies have shown that non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhi bitors, such as efavirenz or nevirapine, in combination with two nucleoside analogues have an antiretroviral potency comparable to protease inhibitor containing regimens. Triple combination therapy that includes a non-nucleos ide reverse transcriptase inhibitor can therefore be regarded as an effecti ve alternative first-line treatment of HIV-1 infection.
