Catalytic adsorptive stripping voltammetry (CAdSV) combining adsorptive pre
concentration of the electroactive species with the catalytic reaction prov
ides a significant enhancement of the voltammetric response, and consequent
ly a considerable decrease of the detection limit, as well as the improveme
nt of the selectivity of the determination. This article presents principle
s, potentialities and limitation of the CAdSV method. Depending on the mech
anism and nature of the catalytic reaction applied in CAdSV the authors dis
tinguish six basic types of the catalytic systems. The features and advanta
ges of the above kinds of the catalytic systems are discussed. Basing on th
e authors' investigations and the literature review, numerous examples of t
he CAdSV systems, which have found wide application in ultratraces analysis
, are presented. The future trends and development of the method are evalua
ted.
