A new procedure for eigenvalue and transient dynamic analyses in solid mech
anics is presented here using a boundary integral approach. Contrary to pre
vious work, it is shown in this paper that by applying a special class of c
o-ordinate functions one can obtain the mass matrix using boundary values.
As a consequence, the foe vibration case is reduced to an algebraic eigenva
lue problem, while transient vibrations can be solved by using a direct tim
e integration procedure. (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
