This paper presents some design concepts and circuits which are the basis o
f a very low-power analog cochlear prosthesis in silicon technology. The pr
oposed methods use continuous interleaved sampling (CIS) combined with nove
l current-mode, micropower analog techniques such as log-domain processing,
A tone-controller is presented which will allow bass and treble control tu
ned in an analog fashion. Electrical measurements on a silicon implementati
on of a single-channel cochlear implant confirm the feasibility of the prop
osed approach and its application in multichannel implants.
