Abstract
This paper describes the performance of a novel adaptive mesh refinement,AM R procedure, The;AMR procedure proposed here is based an h-version mesh ref inement strategy. The novelty of the current approach is the nem refinement index derived from an error functional that is based upon the S parameters for the multiport microwave devices. Moreover, the index consists of, from the physical insights of the error functional, two terms: the contribution s from residual charges and residual currents. The performance of this nove l procedure for various numerical examples, in terms of accuracy in S param eters, are compared with the theoretical rate of convergence. The conclusio n drawn from these examples is that the newly proposed mesh refinement inde x is very effective and accurate in locating regions for refinement. Conseq uently, it results in a very efficient h-version adaptive mesh refinement p rocedure.
