Abstract
This paper presents how to determine the thickness of hysteresis ring of hy steresis motor using the finite element method combined with a vector hyste resis model, From the magnitude and direction of the magnetic held intensit y, the magnetization of each ring element is calculated by the vector hyste resis model and the torque can be obtained from the vector sum of each torq ue of each element or from the area of hysteresis loop. From these calculat ions, it is found that the motor torque is not proportional to the thicknes s of the ring. As a result, an optimum thickness of the hysteresis ring exi sts and it can be determined by the proposed method.
