Reactions of lithium tris(trimethylsilyl)hydrazine (1) with ECl3 (E = Al, F
e) and Me2SnCl2 show that (1) undergoes substitution reaction to give stabl
e silylated metallahydrazines, (Me3Si)(2)N-N(SiMe3)AlCl2 and (Me3Si)(2)N-N(
SiMe3)SnCl(Me-2), whereas, FeCl3 acts as an oxidant to give Me3SiN=NSiMe3.
However, EX4 (E = Sn, Ti and X = Cl, I) and SbCl5 provide disubstituted pro
ducts [(Me3Si)(2)N-N(SiMe3)](2)EXn-2. SnCl2, gives a two coordinated Sn(II)
derivative Sn[(Me3Si)(3)N-2](2).
