Viscosities of a few cationic polyelectrolytes possessing N-alkyl/N-acyl am
monium and 2,5-thiophenylene linkages in their respective repeating units o
f the chain (mol. wt. 1154-3815) have been studied in two dipolar aprotic s
olvents, viz. propylene carbonate (PC) and sulpholane. The results are trea
ted on the basis of Fuoss-Strauss equation. The intrinsic viscosities obtai
ned from Fuoss-Strauss equation, in conjunction with the derived parameters
such as characteristic ratio (C-infinity), maximum cross-dimension ((S) ov
er bar), root mean square end-to-end distance (< Rg(2)> (1/2)) and plane pr
ojection distance (P) are invoked to comprehend polycationic hydrodynamic m
odels in both solvents.
