Abstract
We have tested screening and response surface experimental designs to optim ise the solid-phase microextraction (SPME) of the widely used herbicide ala chlor. Extraction time and sample volume were the only statistically signif icant factors from those studied. In the final optimised conditions the pro cedure was applied to the SPME-HPLC analysis of alachlor in spiked water sa mples with excellent figures of merit. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
