In this paper, the texture evolution for a two-dimensional polycrystal is i
nvestigated in the cases of biaxial stretching and simple shear. The descri
ption of this texture is analyzed, using Taylor's assumption, for an aggreg
ate consisting of rigid plastic single crystals with plane symmetry. An ana
lytical solution is obtained for the orientation distribution function desc
ribing the aggregate textures. The evolution of this texture, for large str
ain, induces preferential orientations which are discussed. (C) 2000 Elsevi
