Abstract
Two new homologs of human (h) TAF(II)30, dTAF(II)16 and dTAF(II)24 were rev ealed in Drosophila melanogaster: The proteins are encoded by neighboring g enes and bind with the TATA-binding protein and other dTAF(II) proteins inv olved in TFIID. Only dTAF(II)24 interacts with GCN5 histone acetyltransfera se (HAT), which is the first demonstration of the TAF(II)-GCN5-HAT complex in D. melanogaster. The two proteins have both common and individual locati on sites on polytene chromosomes. Possibly, the functions of dTAF(II)16 and dTAF(II)24 are similar but not identical.
