Abstract
Levels of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and TH mRNA were measured after adminis tration of dopamine agonists for a long period of time to elucidate the lon g-term feedback inhibition of dopamine synthesis in nigrostriatal dopaminer gic neurons. Continuous infusion, which desensitized presynaptic dopamine r eceptors, but not repeated administration, down-regulated TH and TH mRNA le vels. This suggests levels of TH protein and mRNA are only feedback inhibit ed by the continuous stimulation of postsynaptic dopamine receptors. (C) 20 00 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
