Abstract
I review the observational properties of SW Sex stars. I show that they can be explained by an accretion stream overflowing the disc, combined with an accretion disc wind. I suggest that SW Sex behaviour is caused by episodes of very high mass transfer, which are balanced by VY Sd low states. (C) 20 00 Elsevier Science BN. All rights reserved.
