Type specimens of the family Tortricidae deposited in the collection of the
National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, are listed al
phabetically by species (or subspecies), along with an abbreviated literatu
re citation to the original description and collection data for the specime
n. The type collection includes 1,001 name-bearing types of Tortricidae: 85
1 holotypes, 50 lectotypes (6 of which are designated herein), 60 species r
epresented by one or more syntypes, 38 species represented by the only know
n extant specimen from the original series, 1 neotype, and 1 "pseudo-type."
The collection includes the vast majority of the tortricid species describ
ed by C. Fernald, A. Busck, C. Heinrich, J. Clarke, A. Blanchard, and A. Ka
wabe. It also includes the types of numerous species described by Lord Wals
ingham, W. Kearfott, H. Dyar, N. Obraztsov, J. Razowski, J. Powell, W. Mill
er, R. Brown, and J. Brown.
