Abstract
A theoretical study is given of the magneto-optical properties of bism uth in a strong quantizing magnetic field. The expressions for the non -parabolic velocity matrix elements obtained hitherto are investigated to select the best model. Alternative new analytical expressions for the quantum optical conductivity tenser valid for any arbitrary direct ion of the applied magnetic field have been derived. The study has rem oved a number of qualitative discrepancies between theoretical and exp erimental results and has led to a good quantitative agreement with th e experimental data.
