Ya. Strizhakova et al., Liquid-phase chlorination of saturated hydrocarbons in the presence of olefins and initiating systems based thereon, RUSS J ORG, 36(5), 2000, pp. 645-649
Liquid-phase low-temperature chlorination of saturated hydrocarbons was stu
died in the presence of various olefins (inductors). Liquid-phase chlorinat
ion of alkanes and chloroalkanes in the presence of a system containing azo
bis(isobutyronitrile) and an olefin showed a synergistic effect, i.e., the
rate of chlorination in the triple system was much greater than the sum of
the rates of chlorination in the binary systems. An effective mechanism was
proposed for appearance of radical species which favor chlorination of a s
aturated substrate.
