We have studied the suitability of titanium silicide as an electrode materi
al in electrochemical cells. The high chemical stability, low resistivity a
nd possibility to immobilise biomolecules in combination with the possibili
ty to manufacture structured electrodes with methods from the microelectron
ics industry make silicides interesting. As an example results from measure
ments with the enzyme horseradish peroxidase are given and compared with si
milar measurements with graphite and carbon paste electrodes. (C) 2000 Else
