Abstract
International standards for carbon monoxide (CO) alarms in domestic premise s dictate the permissible alarm-triggering times for different CO concentra tion levels. Simple, but reliable, integration algorithms should be include d in low-cost smart alarms based on microcontrollers. Here, we present a bi o-inspired digital integrator and its performance is tested against America n and European standards. The difficulties to fulfil the later are discusse d, and some modifications of the algorithm are introduced. Finally, the adm issible concentration errors are calculated.
