S. Sivaprasad et al., Fatigue crack growth studies on Cu-strengthened HSLA steels in air and in simulated sea water, T I INST ME, 53(3), 2000, pp. 333-339
The influence of simulated sea water vis-a-vis air on fatigue crack growth
behaviour in two Cu-strengthened HSLA steels at different R-ratios and freq
uencies has been investigated. These studies have been substantiated with c
rack closure measurements. The results indicate that the influence of micro
structure and R-ratio on FCGR and CFCGR of these steels can be explained pr
imarily using crack closure concepts. The effect of frequency on CFCGR is e
lucidated through fractographic records of changes in the crack growth mech
anisms.
