Fn. Ertas et al., The effect of acetone on calomel formation on a mercury film electrode surface in chloride medium, TURK J CHEM, 24(3), 2000, pp. 261-267
In the presence of chloride ions, calomel formation takes place on the merc
ury thin film electrodes under open-circuit conditions, which leads to high
base currents and erratic performance in ASV measurements. This study desc
ribes the effect of chloride concentration on the calomel formation on the
surface by following the cathodic peak on the anodic scan. The effect of ac
etone on the surface reaction and baseline stability was studied. Applicati
on of the method with a sea water sample is also given.
