Examination of Cichlid fishes belonging to the genera Oreochromis, Tilapia,
Sarotherodon, Hemichromis, Konia, Stomatepia, Pungu, Nanochromis and Chrom
idotilapia from Cameroon, Senegal and Chad revealed the presence of 19 myxo
sporidian species belonging to the genera Sphaerospora Thelohan, 1892, Myxo
bolus Butschli, 1882 and Henneguya Thelohan, 1882. Two of these species are
new: Myxobolus gandiolensis from kidney of Tiliapia guineensis and Hennegu
ya sarotherodoni from intestine of Sarotherodon galilaeus. The following pr
eviously described species found are: Sphaerospora melenensis, S. tilapiae,
Myxobolus agolus, M. beninensis, M. brachysporus, M. camerounensis, M. cla
rii, M. equatorialis, M. fotoi, M. galilaeus, M. heterosporus, M. homeospor
us, M. israelensis, M. kainjiae, M. sarigi, M. tilapiae and M. zillii. Thes
e myxosporidia infested numerous organs and tissues. Some of them form cyst
