Twenty one new bstituted-4-[(5'-substituted-2'-phenylindol-3'-yl) meth
ylene] imidazolin-5-(4H)-ones (3a-b) were synthesised from the respect
ive bstituted-4-[(5'-substituted-2'-phenylindol-3'-yl) methylene] oxoz
olin-5-(4H)-ones (2a-c) and appropriate primary amines. 2a-c were obta
ined from the 5-substituted-2-phenylindole-3-carboxaldehydes (la-c) an
d N-acetylglycine under thermal reaction conditions with acetic anhydr
ide and anhyd sodium acetate. The compounds were screened for their an
tibacterial activity.
