A three dimensional model for hydrodynamics and sediment transport (SAM-SD)
is applied to the <<baie de Seine>> area (English Channel) in order to sim
ulate the turbid structures (turbidity maximum in the Seine estuary and tur
bid plume of the Seine river). This model is able to satisfactorily reprodu
ce the high suspended matter concentrations observed in the turbidity maxim
um (a few g.L-1) as well as the increasing suspended matter concentrations
in the river plume (few mg.L-1) along the annual cycle. This study gives an
insight on the contribution of the Seine river inputs to deposits of fine
particles in the eastern bale de Seine. (C) 2000 Academie des sciences/Edit
