Effective object segmentation is achieved by applying a novel data-modulate d nonlinear diffusion technique. The advantages of this strategy are a cons iderable smoothing of the detail of the scene image within the boundaries o f the object while inhibiting the diffusion across the boundaries, as well as preserving and even enhancing the object borders.
