I. Vanmoortel et al., Fast electrochemical method for estimation of the corrosion resistance of electrode materials in molten enamel, GLASS TECH, 41(5), 2000, pp. 156-160
A relatively simple and fast method, based an electrochemical techniques, i
s described to obtain qualitative information concerning the resistance aga
inst corrosion of electrode materials in a commercial molten enamel This me
thod can be used as a standard method for obtaining and comparing of the co
rrosion resistance of electrode materials (used for electric melting) in ex
isting and/or newly developed molten enamel and this cart be achieved in a
relatively short time. Results of this method were compared with those obta
ined by the weight loss method. On a qualitative basis the results of both
methods indicated that Sn(IV) oxide electrodes have the best resistance aga
inst corrosion in the used commercial enamel. Two stainless steel electrode
materials showed only a small corrosion resistance, the other materials ar
e situated between the two given extreme situations The advantage of the el
ectrochemical method is that in less then 2 h conclusions can be drawn conc
erning the corrosion resistance using small samples of potential electrode
materials. Weight loss experiments require much more rime and consider-ably
lar-ger samples.
