Abstract
The influence of the BaOl(SrO+BaO) ratio on the viscosity, liquidus tempera ture and electrical resistivity of melts was studied in R-2 O-RO-SiO2 glass es for a plasma display panel (PDP) substrate. SrO was substituted progessi vely by BaO at fixed concentrations of alkaline earth oxides. The dependenc e of the viscosity and liquidus temperature on BaOl(SrO+BaO) showed a conti nuous decrease. However the compositional dependence of resistivity showed minima that may be a kind of mixed mobile ion effect. Comparison of these r esults with those of previous work suggests that a full replacement of SrO by BaO is desirable from the viewpoint of raw material cost and practical g lass production.
