In this article, the importance of the employment of cane bio-mass as a sou
rce of renewable fuel is examined. Also analyzed are the alternative method
s of achieving bagasse surplus, the effect of the use of agricultural cane
residues and the potential advantage of employing cane biomass in America.
Attention is given to the integral milling process of cane, to new technolo
gies applied to cane biomass for the production of electricity and to the n
eed of diversifying this type of production since its potential as an energ
y source is an aspect which would provide favorable economic results.
