Pd. Jablonski et al., MANUFACTURE AND ANALYSIS OF INTERNAL-TIN MODIFIED JELLY ROLL CABLES FOR THE 45T HYBRID MAGNET, IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 7(2), 1997, pp. 1380-1383
The 45T hybrid magnet being constructed by the National High Magnetic
Field Laboratory will generate the world's highest steady magnetic fie
ld, The coil is composed of four sections: A Nb-Ti outsert, two Nb3Sn
outserts and a water cooled resistive insert. Teledyne Wah Chang produ
ced the wire for the Nb,Sn coils (A and B) and oversaw the cabling, Th
e wire design for the 45T hybrid magnet is a modified version of TWC's
Nb diffusion barrier wire, This wire design provides excellent contro
l of the I-c and hysteresis loss. Coil A is composed of 525, 0.43mm di
ameter wires 939m in length. Coil B is a two piece cable composed of 3
15, 0.51mm diameter wires. The lengths of the Coil B pieces are 844m a
nd 623m. The I-c, ''n''-value and hysteresis loss of the wire are show
n to be uniform. The variability in RRR for each coil is discussed. Th
e results of triplet test cables are also reported.
