As discovered by recent quasi-static and dynamic resonance experiments, the
classical nonlinear theory fails in describing the hysteretic behavior of
nonlinear mesosopic materials like rocks, concrete, etc. In the present pap
er we apply the Local Interaction Simulation Approach (LISA) for studying s
uch kind of nonclassical nonlinearity. To this purpose, we include in the L
ISA treatment of ultrasonic wave propagation a phenomenological model, base
d on the PM space approach, of the local mesoscopic features of rocks and o
ther materials with localized damages. A quantitative comparison of simulat
ion and experimental results in quasi-static experiments is also presented.
