Abstract
American Superconductor Corporation, Pirelli Cable Corporation, and th e Electric Power Research Institute are engaged in a program aimed at developing a commercially viable high temperature superconducting powe r transmission cable, The first phase of the program has been complete d with the fabrication and testing of a 50 meter conductor for a power transmission cable, Over 12,000 meters of wire have been manufactured and thoroughly tested. In this paper, we will present and discuss dat a of the production wires used in the 50 meter conductor. In addition, we will discuss electrical and mechanical performance data used to qu alify a high performance, high strength wire.
