A theoretical model of thermodetection system based on the linear filter th
eory is proposed. The modulation transfer function of a thermodetection sys
tem is expressed as a product of the modulation transfer functions of its s
ubsystems. A numerical technique for computing the optical transfer functio
n of an objective based on the wave optics is proposed, which takes into ac
count spectral characteristics of the imaging chain. Infrared images obtain
ed with the model simulate well the experimentally obtained images.
