Abstract
Two new gallium(II) derivatives, [GaCl(acac)](2) (acac = acetylacetonate an d [GaCl(tmhd)](2) (tmhd = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate), have bee n prepared and characterized by X-ray structural studies, partial elemental analyses, physical properties, and their H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and IR spectra . Both compounds have direct gallium-gallium bonds between two tetracoordin ated gallium atoms with each in the +2 oxidation state and with each galliu m bonded to a chloride and a chelated beta -diketonate ligand. Metal-metal bond lengths are Ga(1)-Ga(1a) = 2.396(3) Angstrom for the acac derivative ( which has crystallographically imposed C-2 symmetry) and Ga(1)-GaC(2) = 2.3 91(2) Angstrom for the tmhd derivative.
