Abstract
Tibicen winnemanna (Davis) produces a broad-band frequency- and amplit ude-modulated advertisement call. Observations of the animals in the f ield show that the cicadas produce varied acoustic output. This work i nvestigates the connection between the acoustic behavior of the cicada and the body temperature of the calling animal. The results show ther e is strong evidence to support the hypothesis that both acoustic outp ut and song intensity are highly dependent on body temperature.
