Abstract
Effective sanitation of the environment, particularly of some of its specia l parts which can be a source of diseases, plays an important role in preve ntion of infectious diseases. In this respect special attention should be p aid to the disinfection of infected farm animal excrements. Sanitation of e xcrements should, on the one hand, ensure effective devitalization of infec tious agents and, on the other hand, comply with the requirement of preserv ing the composition of the manure so it can be used in agricultural product ion. The present study focuses on the assessment of possibilities for disin fection of straw manure and observation of temperatures in the manure durin g composting, based on the knowledge that the processes of composting depen ds on microbial activity. Cattle straw manure was composted in two static piles, a control pile and a pile disinfected with 0.3% Persteril (32-35% peracetic acid). Temperature in the disinfected pile was lower by 2 degreesC after 24 h and within six d ays the temperatures in both piles equalized. The subsequent trend was simi lar except for higher temperatures in the disinfected pile from day II to d ay 21. The dose of Persteril used sufficed to devitalize enterobacteria wit hin one hour exposure.
