The trochoidal monochromator is commonly used to produce a monoenergetic el
ectron beam in an axial magnetic field. By adding a retarding electric fiel
d system at the entrance and a Faraday cup at the exit of the monochromator
, such a dispersive device can be used to measure the energy distribution o
f an electron beam. This device is used in a traveling wave tube in order t
o study wave particle interactions. (C) 2000 American Institute of Physics.
