Abstract
A novel 3-geranyl-4-hydroxybenzoic acid derivative, methyl xerophytolate (1 ), was isolated from the crude extract of Xerophytaplicata (Velloziacea) co llected in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The structure of 1 was elucidated using spectroscopic methods. This is the first time that this type of skeleton is reported in this family.
