Developments in the production of ultra-thin hot strip

The conference "Hot Rolling of Thin Gauge Sheet Steel", sponsored by the Ir on and Steel Society, USA, took place in Toronto from April 30 - May 2, 200 0. More than 120 experts from 21 countries attended the event. A total of 1 4 papers were presented, featuring market analyses and topical information on the latest state of the art in the production of thin gauge sheet steel. Special mention should be made of the layout and operation of the Pony-Mil l. This mill is a conventional wide hot strip mill with an additional mills tand for gauge reduction after uncoiling the strip. Also information on lat est developments in the coilbox technology were featured, as well as variou s plant configurations incorporating a coilbox in an ultra-thin hot strip p roduction line. The event was rounded off by a tour of the No. 2 hot strip mill at Dofasco Inc., Hamilton, Canada.
