Abstract
The reaction of pentane-2,4-dione (Hacac) with [M(CN)(4)O(H2O)](2-) ion (M = Mo, W) gave complexes which were isolated as their tetraphenylphosphonium salts (Ph4P)(2)[M(CN)(3)O(acac)], and were characterised by X-ray crystal structure determination, by u.v.-vis. and H-1-n.m.r. spectroscopy, cyclic v oltammetry, and thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis. The st ructure determination showed the complexes to have an approximately octahed ral geometry, with the three cyanides in the mer configuration. Results are compared with those of other [M(CN)(3)O(LL)](n-) ions containing bidentate ligands LL.
