Abstract
This report presents the findings of a study undertaken by Working Group 4 (Subsurface Planning) of the International Tunnelling Association. The stud y compared practices in nine countries-Australia, Czech Republic, Finland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Turkey-concerning the planni ng and mapping of underground space. [Since the completion of this synopsis , Japan is presently concluding a new law concerning the utilization of dee p underground installations.] This overview reviews important issues and pr esents recommendations for subsurface planning and mapping.
