Abstract
Adult loriciferans are virtually identical in morphology to the lorica larv ae of priapulids, except for the absence of gonads. It is argued that they are, in fact, progenetic priapulids. The normal adult/lorica larva life cyc le of priapulids has evolved in two ways, omitting one or the other of thes e stages.
