This article presents a state-of-the art review to provide a detailed and c
oordinated account of the development of textures in titanium and its alloy
s during thermomechanical processing. In general, the evolution of textures
depends on several factors such as deformation temperature and mode of def
ormation, initial texture and microstructure, degree and rate of deformatio
n, and alloying elements. The correlation of anisotropy of mechanical prope
rties with the type of texture present in the material is summarised. The c
hronological development of texture modelling and deformation mechanisms in
these systems are presented.
