The hares from Kirghizia were traditionally attributed to the subspecies Le
pus capensis lehmanni. The morphometric analysis of 188 bare's skulls from
Kirghizia and adjacent territories showed that hares from high-mountain reg
ions of Kirghizia should be attributed to the species L. c. pamirensis. The
subspecies L. c. lehmanni is distributed in Kazakhstan and northern Uzbeki
stan, L. c. buchareiensis, in southern Uzbekistan.
