Compressional and shear wave velocities have been measured as functions of
pressure up to 2 GPa for float glass and SiO2 + 8.4 wt% TiO2 glass using pu
lse superposition method. The compressional wave velocities for float glass
are found to increase first, then decrease with increasing pressure. This p
henomenon is different from that of other glasses. The shear wave velocitie
s of neat glass and both compressional and shear wave velocities of SiO2 8.4 wt % TiO2 decrease with in creasing pressure as general SiO2 glass. The
experimental results are discussed. And the state parameters in Murnaghan
equation have been calculated.
