Abstract
A superconducting magnet system for MHD propulsion research is being c onstructed at the IEE GAS. The magnet is a large bore dipole with the inner diameter of 205mm, the winding is a layer wound 600 circular sad dle with the design central field of 4T and the length of 830mm. The o uter diameter, the total length and height of the cryostat are 650mm, 1300mm and 1390mm respectively. Equipped with a removable current lead and a superconducting switch, the system will be operated for 5 days with an available liquid helium of 50 liters. The magnet system will b e used For a MHD propulsion model ship.
