Abstract
Patients discharged from the hospital on an angiotensin-converting enzyme i nhibitor had a significant decrease in 30-day death or readmission (by 30% in 1,195 unselected Medicare patients hospitalized with congestive heart fa ilure). Other independent predictors of poor outcome determined by multivar iate analysis included history of congestive heart failure, male gender, in creased number of comorbidities, higher serum blood urea nitrogen, and lowe r serum sodium.
