Abstract
Requirements and possible configurations for a SMES operating in 15 su bstations are discussed. The system will experience similar to 25 full discharges a year. Such a SMES system should provide 1 to 2 second-ri de through capability, a response time of less than 8 milliseconds, an d demonstrate a high efficiency.
