Abstract
A mathematical model for the growth of microbial cells upon submerged culti vation was constructed. The model describes the growth phases of the biomas s of microorganisms in the absence of inhibiting agents and limitation by s ubstrate in the medium. At the basis of model is the requirement that cells should not be in physical contact during some time in order that they call divide. The model involves the known concepts of statistical physics. The consequences of the model are discussed.
