The fully deprotonated tetrathiacalix[4]arene 1(4-) in 1,3-alternate confor
mation and bearing four carboxylate units was shown to act as a tecton lead
ing, in the presence of Ag+ cation, to a 2-D coordination network in the cr
ystalline phase which can be described as discrete binuclear [1(4-), (Ag+)(
2)](2-) complexes interconnected by Ag+ cations.
