Abstract
New studies show that three types of evolutionarily conserved post translat ional tubulin modification, polyglutamylation, polyglycylation and detyrosi nation, play important roles in vivo. These modifications appear to act by modulating the binding of molecular motors to the external surface of micro tubules.
